About the Plan
A parks and recreation master plan is an all-encompassing strategy that is used to identify parks and recreation needs in the community. It also helps predict future demand, and builds a shared vision and framework for long-range parks and recreation system development. The planning process engages residents and collects public input. It does not focus on one particular park or area, but instead offers a bird’s-eye view of a community’s parks and recreation landscape, both today and beyond.
Why it Matters
Parks and recreation are an important part of improving the quality of life for Las Vegas citizens. They provide people an opportunity to exercise, relax, and congregate for group activities and special events. In addition, parks add an aesthetic value to the city, which improves public perception and interest in the area. Parks and Recreation: improves economic health; reduces crime; contributes to the conservation of natural resources; provides educational, recreational and cultural activities for youth and adults of all ages; creates a strong sense of community; potentially increases the value of property; promotes an increase in fitness and a reduction in obesity; contributes to the preservation of aesthetic values; and supports overall quality of life.
